Samburu Game Reserve is essentially lava plain that features steep sided gullies and rounded hills wherein the 32-kilometre Ewaso Nyiro River provides both the central feature of the landscape and the lifeblood of the ecosystem. The vegetation comprises predominantly acacia woodland interspersed with bush, grass and scrubland, which is broken here and there by small rugged hills whilst the meandering loops of the river area bordered by a narrow gallery of riverine woodland in which acacia and doum palm flourish. This is a dry country ecosystem and is, therefore, prone to large variations in the animal populations as they move in search of water and pasture. And, whilst poaching has completely wiped out the rhino herds, lion are often seen while the burgeoning elephant herds are responsible for the ruination of several sections of riverside forests. The range of rare species also includes reticulated giraffe, Grevy’s zebra, Somali ostrich and gerenuk whilst the bird life is diverse and prolific and includes marsh

Maasai Mara Game Reserve covers 700 Square miles of magnificent wilderness. It is the Africa of the imagination; endless reaches of acacia-dotted grasslands studded with hazy hills. It’s the land of African legend: Lion are abundant throughout the park, as are the elephants, giraffes, and a variety of gazelle species and zebra. Cheetah and leopard are also regularly seen and, less commonly, rhino. The annual wildebeest migration, one of nature’s few remaining wildlife spectacles, occurs in the Mara where the big animals and their predators are to be present in abundance. Several species of Bee-Eater, the flying rainbow that heads the list of the Mara’s birds, occur in the reserve. As well as wildlife, the Maasai Mara is also home to many members of the colorful Maasai tribe who June be seen around the borders of the park – Morans (warriors) loping across the plains, young boys herding goats, or elders grouped under a tree discussing matters of the day.

It’s a dawn take off, rising as the sun rises and floats in whichever direction the winds of the morning takes you. Your pilot can precisely control the altitude of your balloon: sometimes flying at treetop height, sometimes lower, offering a unique perspective and great photographic opportunities of the wildlife below. At other times he will ascend to 1000ft or more to see the enormity and wonderful panorama of the Maasai Mara.  From time to time the pilot must put more heat into the balloon with the powerful whisper burners. In between these burns, there is silence apart from the natural sounds below. Upon landing, you can observe the complete deflation of the balloon envelope and be ready for a full bush breakfast served with a good sparkling wine.

Cost is $420.00 per person.

  1. An optional visit to a Maasai Boma (homestead) in the company of your knowledgeable driver guide will reveal their rich outstanding culture and customs (extra cost).

Cost is $20.00 per person.

  1. Out of Africa Breakfast ( Bush Breakfast)

Imagine sitting at a table under the shade of a classic umbrella tree on the Maasai Mara Plains. The table is laid with bone china and king’s silver cutlery. And a sumptuous breakfast follow, all alone in the wild.
